 About Me

I am an enthusiastic teacher and experienced in teaching all ages and abilities - my current pupils range from 6 to 60+ years old! I offer tuition in the following areas:

Electric guitar,

acoustic guitar,

classical guitar,

bass guitar,

music theory,

reading notation,

GCSE and A Level music.

I can accommodate a wide range of styles due to my background in both popular music styles and classical music.

In terms of academic qualifications, I have a Bmus and MA in music from Cardiff University. I perform regularly, both in my own projects and as a session player for other acts. I have worked on TV, in musical productions and done recording work for various artists.

  My Philosophy

Every pupil is different, therefore every lesson is different. People come to me with extremely varied goals and at different stages in their musical development so right from the start I make sure I have a good understanding of why YOU play or want to play guitar and what you're looking to get out of your time with me. I make sure the lessons are tailored so that we're working towards what you want to achieve.

With children, I generally put more of an emphasis on developing a love and enjoyment of music. If a child looks forward to lessons and enjoys spending time with the instrument they are much more likely to stick with it and enjoy music for the rest of their lives.

As a teacher, I am very interested in the learning process and how we go about acquiring skills. This plays an important role in my lessons and ensures that my pupils get the most out of their practice.

Prices are as follows:

Hour - £50. Half hour - £28.

I primarily work from my home studio in the Fairwater area of Cardiff. I'm also willing to travel to lessons.

If I am travelling to you then it is the same basic rate plus travelling time/expenses. This will be worked out on an individual basis.

While it is up to the student whether or not they wish to go anywhere near an exam, I can provide specific tuition for the following exams:

Electric Guitar - Rockschool, RGT.

Acoustic Guitar - Rockschool, RGT.

Classical Guitar - ABRSM, Trinity.

Bass Guitar - Rockschool, RGT.

 The Studio

I teach, write and record from my home studio in the Fairwater area of Cardiff. It is a fully soundproofed, professionally treated space with all the equipment we could possibly need! I run Logic X DAW, making it extremely easy to record pupils in lessons - an extremely effective way of analysing elements of their playing (while also being fun!). This equipment also comes in useful with pupils who have an interest in songwriting, arranging or composing and can help them develop the confidence to start writing and recording music themselves.

I find learning in a professional environment, with enough space and good quality equipment, can make a huge difference to students' approach to learning and music making.
